PPR Physician

Our Mission

Primary Physicians Research is dedicated to improving the health and wellness of children and adults by providing the highest quality Phase I-IV and OTC clinical research services to the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industry.

Medical Pioneers

Pittsburgh has a history of pioneers in medicine. On July 2, 1952, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Dr. Jonas Salk introduced the polio vaccine giving hope to thousands faced with the possibility of contracting this debilitating disease. And, in April 1954, nationwide testing of the vaccine began.

In 1989, Dr. Thomas Starzl, an expert on organ transplants from Pittsburgh, often referred to as “the father of modern transplantation”, pioneered a new anti-rejection drug that improved the survival rate of transplant patients.

And, it was in Pittsburgh that the first ventricular assist device, or VAD, was introduced to the world. This device takes over some of the heart’s work of people waiting for a heart transplant.

The contributions of these pioneers forever changed the face of medicine.

Pittsburgh Pediatric Research

Sharing that pioneering vision, two Pittsburgh pediatricians, Mark M. Blatter, MD and Keith S. Reisinger, MD, MPH founded Pittsburgh Pediatric Research in 1982. Committed to working with children and with a desire to improve the health of all children, these physicians dedicated themselves to medical research. Today, PPR is proud of its role in conducting clinical trials for major pharmaceutical companies that has lead to the licensure of most of the vaccines children routinely receive.

Now, more than 25 years later, with over 20 community-based sites in 3 states (each operating independently and with on site Principal Investigators), their research has expanded to include adolescent, adult and geriatric trials under their new name Primary Physicians Research (PPR).
